Traditional vs Daring Hairstyles
Hairstyles are a personal reflection of one’s tastes or preferences.
Hair color, texture and length are the foundation. The design, coloring
techniques, and styling accessorize the foundation. There are many types
of hairdos. Most can be classified as either traditional or daring
hairstyles.
Traditional or classic hairstyles are adaptable precision cuts that
continue to rank as popular styles. They are timeless. Classic
hairstyles work well in any occupation. Traditional hairdos that are
memorable include the bob, the pixie cut and the pageboy.
The bob cut originated in the 1920s and were the popular style during
the time of the flappers. It is a short hairstyle where the ends are
about chin length and hair is close to the face. The bob is suitable for
oval, round, heart and diamond face shapes. It also is very appealing to
medium and thick hair textures and medium to dense hair densities. The
time spent blow drying this hairstyles ranges from 10 to 20 minutes. The
typical products used with the bob cut are mousse, smoothing shine and
hair spray. This is an easy to maintain hairstyle.

The pixie hairstyle is a short layered hairstyle with a shaggy fringe.
This style is best for the following face shapes; oval oblong, square,
diamond and triangular. A woman with fine features such as high cheek
bones and large eyes would look gorgeous in a pixie. Audrey Hepburn
immortalized the pixie cut. A thin to medium hair texture with a sparse
or medium hair density works well with the pixie cut. This
low-maintenance style takes only 5 to 10 minutes to blow dry. Mousse and
shine gels work well with this style.
Conversely, daring hairstyles are known for being outrageous. These
styles draw attention on their own merit. They are visually different
due to color, shape or presentation. These hairstyles are for the bold
individuals who don’t worry about the opinions of others. They enjoy
using their hair as a means of expression.
Dreadlocks are definitely a daring hairstyle. Dreadlocks are a long
hairstyle worn by either men or women. The hair is sectioned by
backcombing, braiding, hand rolling or by letting the hair dry naturally
or “lock” on its own. This hairstyle varies in size and length as well
as neatness of dreadlocks.
Another set of audacious hairstyles are punk hairstyles. The key
aspect of these styles is lots of volumes with lots of color. While it
is not uncommon to see punk hairstyles with many colors, some choose to
have one dominant color such as green, pink or blue. The Mohawk, a
classic example of this genre, is hair that is shaved on the side with a
strip of hair in the middle that is spiked up. The Liberty spikes
hairstyle closely resembles the Mohawk; the middle hair is spiked up,
but the hair on each side is thick with gel and plastered to the head.
The most important element of punk haircuts is the extensive use of hair
products. Gels and hairspray mold the spikes into unmovable extensions.
Whether selecting a traditional or daring style, it is important to
select a style that truly expresses your personality.
